Baker Wins the 2009 KO Propo Grand Prix

Congratulations to Barry Baker on his dominant performance last weekend at the 2009 KO Propo Grand Prix. Hosted by the brand new facility at West Coast Raceway in La Mirada, California, the event was directed by Charlie Suangka. Among the perks for those in attendance were permanent corner marshalls as well as complimentary breakfasts for all racers on both days. KO Propo America also provided gift bags for every competitor. As an associate sponsor of the event, P1 Brand designed and produced the number decals for all of the vehicles, tech stickers for the spec tires, the complimentary event tee shirts and even assisted with the concepting of the podium and backdrop for the award presentation.

Baker earned the TQ spots in both 13.5 Expert and Modified classes. He would go on to win both classes in the first two mains, but not before Paul Lemieux put up an amazing fight in the A2 of Modified. Watch for Baker's amazing pass at the 2:15 mark in the video above, on the tightest section of the course!

Thanks to Andy Hillman of HPI and Joel Navarro of RC Car Action Magazine for the photo and videos posted above.

2009 KO Propo Grand Prix / Sneak Peek

Final, digital mock up for the official 2009 KO Propo Grand Prix number stickers that will be used by all of the competitors. We can't wait to see these on track at West Coast Raceway this weekend! And the great benefit for the racers is that no matter how they finish, each of them will take home this little KOGP souvenir on their car. P1 Brand also designed and produced the complimentary event tee shirts for the event.

Special thanks to Tre's Leonard at TnT-Fx for printing these for us in a hurry.

Motion Graphics / Phantom

Motion Graphics....

It's one of the services offered by P1 Brand. And in case you're not sure what motion graphics actually are, click on this link to view Hurley's new super-tech boardshort, the Phantom, which is one example of our recent work. Included in the above spot are digitally designed and animated typography and background elements, which highlight the individual product attributes & characteristics as directed by the client (Hurley). They completed the final mix and edit in-house and we think they did a fantastic job and we're very proud of our contribution, too.

If you're interested in our motion graphic services for your next product launch or promotional release, please contact us at info@P1Brand.com.

House Hot Rod

New from our friends at House Industries, a design and type foundry in Delaware, is this lastest project, C1932. It's a chronicle of Angelo Cruz' restoration process of a 1932 Ford, featuring a 4 color (plus metallic and spot varnish) offset booklet and screenprinted t-shirts with unique (quart-sized paint cans) packaging. The work that trickles from the boys (and gals) at House is always teeming with inspiration, meticulous craft and attention to detail.

THIS is the way stuff should be done.

Autos, Art & Commerce

We couldn't have done it better ourselves...thumbs up to KRINK and BMW for allowing the automobile, art and commerce to merge into a unique work of wonder. And (thankfully) this isn't the first time that BMW has invited an artist to run wild....

On Track Promotions

One of our popular and practical new services is generating, creating and executing, unique and customized  promotional solutions for track owners and race promoters.

At the 2009 International Indoor Champs in Las Vegas, P1 Brand was able to provide additional marketing exposure  by applying large, one color stencils of the title sponsors, Top Racing, Jaco and SMC. These logos were visible not only to those in attendance, but also to the hundreds of viewers that watch the event live, on LiveRC.com.

In addition, we also created several decals, featuring the P1 Brand URL, that were applied to several of the track barriers. This added a little bit of scale realism to the layout but also provided great exposure for P1 Brand.

If this is a service that you'd like to learn more about, or perhaps employ for your next event, please contact us at info@P1Brand.com.

(In case you were wondering, we did design that logo for Ampdraw Hobbies in San Diego a few years back....)

2009 IIC Sneak Peek

We were recently asked by Scotty Ernst to design number decals for his upcoming International Indoor Championships (IIC). Held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, the annual event will celebrate it's fifth anniversary this year from September 7th-12th. Building upon the theme of vintage playing chips, card games and the atmosphere of Vegas, we sat down to create some good solutions. Above is a sneak peek of a few of our submitted concepts.

P1 Brand is proud to be supporting the 2009 IIC and we hope to see some of you there.

VEE DUHB ehn zee HAUS

Several years ago, VW had a great broadcast campaign that was irreverent, intelligent and most of, memorable. The spots featured a Cohen Brothers regular, the hilarious actor Peter Stomare. Besides, when was the last time anyone constructed a full-sized,  steel trebuchet to fling an automobile!?

"Jehrmun enjuneering ehn zee haus!"

P1 Brand in Japan

"We're big in Japan."

Well, we're not really 'big' (yet), but P1 Brand products are available through our exclusive Japanese distributor, Kimiko Yano. We have been told by a well known Japanese driver (who frequents the SoCal racing scene), that Mr. Yano is a very popular online retailer that specializes in 1/12th scale parts and accessories.

Domo arigato!

XRC Magazine August 2009

Featured on the cover of the August 2009 issue of XRC is a photo of J.Filipow's XRay T2009 EU Edition, which he tested and reviewed on page 98. It's been exactly two years since XRC published a 10th scale touring car on the cover, primarily due to the declining popularity of the class. We hope that this surprising and unusual decision by the magazine's editors (which we applaud!) will catalyze a change in that trajectory. Be sure to head down to your local newsstand and pick up a copy! Or purchase it in digital form here.

Having one of our cars on the cover of the best magazine in the RC industry is something to be proud of.  We'd like to thank the following people for their help and support: Robert Black at OCRC Raceway in Huntington Beach for allowing us to test at his new carpet track; thanks to Mike McMahon for the layout/design of the issue (and for continuing to use the very versatile House United). Thanks to XRC Staffers, Carl Hyndman and Jason Boulanger, for the location and studio photos, respectively. Last but not least, thank you to Senior Editor Derek Buono.

iQ Font

iQ font - When driving becomes writing / Full making of from wireless on Vimeo.

As designers, we're very keen on typography. Often times, it is the only element within an assignment that allows for creative interpretation/communication.

Above is an interesting clip that documents a team of typography designers and a stunt driver, working together to use a 1:1 automobile as a sort of stylus. Not surprising (and very similar to the BMW ad we blogged), the process is much more successful than the end result. Regardless, it's a unique branding/promotional tool, as the font is available for download at Toyota.

P1 Brand Press

In the current issue of XRC magazine (August 2009), P1 Brand received it's first bit of press coverage. Senior Staff Photographer, Carl Hyndman, writes a monthly column in called The Circuit, where he discusses all the latest news relating to the world of onroad racing. We want to thank Carl for making the time to inquire about us and for shooting some photos.

RedRC Webisode

RedRC.net has released the first of a new series of demonstrational webisodes, featuring Jilles Groskamp. We like this concept and believe that this is the kind of content that RC manufacturers should be producing and releasing on their own websites, but they're not.

P1 Brand is capable of producing these types of webisodes (film, editing, motion graphics, etc) and we are eagerly awaiting that first call from a manufacturer with such a job request. In the meantime, we may just generate a 'sample' wedisode of our own to encourage this type of programming.

WCRC UPDATE

Already a week has passed since our last post regarding the brand new West Coast Raceway in La Mirada, CA. Since then, owner/operator Danny Stojakovich and his crew have been working hard and quietly opened their doors to racers to come in to practice FREE of charge. The first configuration of the onroad track is very close to the concept rendering (above) that we created and provided to WCRC.

SoCal racer, Kevin Deselms, has posted his own thoughts and photos about WCRC on his own blog here. Photo of the nearly-complete onroad track above, courtesy Kevin Deselms.

WCRC in La Mirada, CA

For the past few weeks, P1 Brand has been providing consultation services to Danny Stojakovich and his soon-to-be-opened, West Coast Raceway in La Mirada, CA. It will feature TWO of the largest indoor racing circuits in the United States; one dedicated to off road vehicles and the other, dedicated to on road vehicles. Stojakovich has enlisted the opinions and suggestions of racers throughout the Southern California area, doing plenty of research and visiting a lot of tracks in the process. Check the evidence on RCTech.

Above is one of our concept renderings that illustrates a detail of the onroad course. We created the drawing to provide a supplemental diagram for the asphalt contractor. Also pictured is a teaser photo of the freshly laid asphalt, containing more than 6500 total square feet of racing surface.

P1 Brand is proud to be involved and we look forward to enjoying AND supporting the new facility.
