RC Racing TV/Europe

RC Racing S3 Episode 7 from Nick Daman on Vimeo.

We like what Nick Daman has been doing with RC Racing TV over the past few years. The race coverage, complete with multi-angle edits and expert commentary by broadcast legend, John Hindhough. Episode 7 covers electric TC racing from the DHI Cup and electric 8th scale offroad racing from the Neo 2009 Race. Check it out.

OCRC Carpet Track

OCRC Raceway in Huntington Beach has just completed construction of a brand new carpet track. The size is 75' x 75', features CRC Ozite and the CRC Clik-Trak barrier system, a tall and solid driver's stand, and ample fluorescent lighting. This is the first permanent carpet facility in the SoCal area at least 8 years, and we're expecting a to see huge resurgence of onroad racing this summer. With the 1/12th scale pan cars beginning to transition into the new, 1cell lipo batteries, we have a strong suspicion that this will become the fastest growing class during the summer months. There's a hearty thread going over at RCTech and you can read it here.

We hope that all racers will come out to see the new facility when OCRC officially hosts it's first club race on June 6th, 2009. Thanks to Joel Navarro for allowing us to publish the first few photos of the track (above) and special thanks to Robert Black for creating such an amazing facility.

Will OCRC and Scotty Ernst host an official "IIC Warm Up Race" later this summer? We sure hope so. Stay tuned....

P1 Brand at 2009 Reedy Race

The 2009 Reedy Race of Champions is history. Even though the international participation in the Invitational Class was lower than usual this year, the competition and entries in the 13.5 Spec, Modified and, newly added, RCGT divisions were considerable. Thanks to the hard work of Scotty Ernst and his crew, as well as Billy Bowerman and his staff at Speed World Raceway, the racing program and the track were absolutely perfect.

We received many accolades on the complimentary P1 Brand Tire Tubes that we presented to each of the entrants. Many racers purchased additional Tire Tubes during the course of the weekend and the Speed World hobby shop sold ALL of their P1 Brand inventory. After all, most racers used at least four complete sets of the Jaco Blue spec tire at the event. The P1 Brand online shop DOES have Tire Tubes in stock and ready to ship....

(and to all of those Reedy participants: please remember that your exclusive coupon code expires on July 1st, 2009, so be sure to redeem it before then!)

2009 Reedy Race Update

With less than a week before the start of the event, there was an interesting announcement released yesterday in regards to the Modified and Invite format. Due to travel restrictions (read: Swine Flu), many of the international drivers who typically compete at the race, won't be in attendance.

Team Associated's Rich Hohwart posted this statement:

...we have decided to combine the Modified and Invitational class drivers and utilize the “World Cup” qualifying/racing format. Many of you may not be familiar with this format so I will explain how it works.

For example, there are currently 41 drivers in Mod and Invite. We will set heats like a normal event and run 4-rounds of IFMAR qualifying on Saturday. Using qual points, we will take the best 2 of 4 points combined to determine the 21 drivers who will move on to Sunday’s Invitational heats, which will consist of three seven car heats running four rounds. Like always, the lowest point total from these 21 drivers will determine the 2009 Invitational champion. The remaining 20 (or more) drivers will be sorted into mains on Sunday with a triple A-main to determine the Modified class winner. The B-main drivers will race twice with the best combined finishing points determining the winner. If there is a C-main, That will run twice as well. (From RCTech.net)

It's going to be an unusual, but hopefully competitive and exciting weekend nonetheless. We commend the Race Promoters and Organizers for the quick and improvised solution.

GearIt App

Serious racers take note: There's a unique racing application available for iPhone users that we've been using at the track for several months. Gear It from Heizer Software is an extremely functional that allows users to quickly determine gear ratios, final ratios and rollouts. It's as if you have every possible gear chart you could ever want, right in your pocket. The software is currently in version 1.1 and you can read more about it here.
