XRC Magazine August 2009

Featured on the cover of the August 2009 issue of XRC is a photo of J.Filipow's XRay T2009 EU Edition, which he tested and reviewed on page 98. It's been exactly two years since XRC published a 10th scale touring car on the cover, primarily due to the declining popularity of the class. We hope that this surprising and unusual decision by the magazine's editors (which we applaud!) will catalyze a change in that trajectory. Be sure to head down to your local newsstand and pick up a copy! Or purchase it in digital form here.

Having one of our cars on the cover of the best magazine in the RC industry is something to be proud of.  We'd like to thank the following people for their help and support: Robert Black at OCRC Raceway in Huntington Beach for allowing us to test at his new carpet track; thanks to Mike McMahon for the layout/design of the issue (and for continuing to use the very versatile House United). Thanks to XRC Staffers, Carl Hyndman and Jason Boulanger, for the location and studio photos, respectively. Last but not least, thank you to Senior Editor Derek Buono.

As designers, we're very keen on typography. Often times, it is the only element within an assignment that allows for creative interpretation/communication.

Above is an interesting clip that documents a team of typography designers and a stunt driver, working together to use a 1:1 automobile as a sort of stylus. Not surprising (and very similar to the BMW ad we blogged), the process is much more successful than the end result. Regardless, it's a unique branding/promotional tool, as the font is available for download at Toyota.

P1 Brand Press

In the current issue of XRC magazine (August 2009), P1 Brand received it's first bit of press coverage. Senior Staff Photographer, Carl Hyndman, writes a monthly column in called The Circuit, where he discusses all the latest news relating to the world of onroad racing. We want to thank Carl for making the time to inquire about us and for shooting some photos.

RedRC Webisode

RedRC.net has released the first of a new series of demonstrational webisodes, featuring Jilles Groskamp. We like this concept and believe that this is the kind of content that RC manufacturers should be producing and releasing on their own websites, but they're not.

P1 Brand is capable of producing these types of webisodes (film, editing, motion graphics, etc) and we are eagerly awaiting that first call from a manufacturer with such a job request. In the meantime, we may just generate a 'sample' wedisode of our own to encourage this type of programming.

WCRC UPDATE

Already a week has passed since our last post regarding the brand new West Coast Raceway in La Mirada, CA. Since then, owner/operator Danny Stojakovich and his crew have been working hard and quietly opened their doors to racers to come in to practice FREE of charge. The first configuration of the onroad track is very close to the concept rendering (above) that we created and provided to WCRC.

SoCal racer, Kevin Deselms, has posted his own thoughts and photos about WCRC on his own blog here. Photo of the nearly-complete onroad track above, courtesy Kevin Deselms.

WCRC in La Mirada, CA

For the past few weeks, P1 Brand has been providing consultation services to Danny Stojakovich and his soon-to-be-opened, West Coast Raceway in La Mirada, CA. It will feature TWO of the largest indoor racing circuits in the United States; one dedicated to off road vehicles and the other, dedicated to on road vehicles. Stojakovich has enlisted the opinions and suggestions of racers throughout the Southern California area, doing plenty of research and visiting a lot of tracks in the process. Check the evidence on RCTech.

Above is one of our concept renderings that illustrates a detail of the onroad course. We created the drawing to provide a supplemental diagram for the asphalt contractor. Also pictured is a teaser photo of the freshly laid asphalt, containing more than 6500 total square feet of racing surface.

P1 Brand is proud to be involved and we look forward to enjoying AND supporting the new facility.

P1 Brand Barrier Tee

We recently made quick work out of a new graphic...from conception to digital comps to films to burning screens to printed apparel to studio photography to digital touch-ups to posting online in less than 48 hours, that's the beauty of DIY. The P1 Brand Barrier Tee is now available and ready to ship. Above are early, in-progress shots of the hand-pulled, screenprinted tees.
